BNP PARIBAS Embassies and International Organisations Trophy 2011

PRESENTATION :

 

The third BNP PARIBAS Embassies and International Organisations Trophy will be held from 29 September to 2 October, on the legendary courts of the Roland Garros Stadium.

 

This competition is open to all employees of Embassies and International Organisations working in France. The event is officially recognised by the French Tennis Federation (F.F.T) and the results are fed into the national rankings.

 

The BNP PARIBAS Embassies and International Organisation Trophy is a competition for teams of ten players.  A team represents either an Embassy or an International Organisation.  Each Embassy or International Organisation can enter several teams.

 

A competition open to everyone :

This year, the competition will be open to everyone "players and non players" by creating the "Bonus Events". By taking part in these, you can win extra points for your team.  Your team needs all of you, from the smallest children to the tallest adult!

 

Magical moments :

Throughout the weekend, you can take advantage of this special occasion to

-        visit "the Museum of French Tennis" and take the "Behind the scenes at Roland Garros" tour,

-        hit a few balls with Cédric Pioline the former world N°5

-        discover wheelchair tennis, on Sunday May 2 by playing against Stéphane Houdet and Michaël Jeremiasz, the Men's Doubles Gold Medallists at the Beijing Paralympic Games

 

For a day, children can experience the Roland Garros ball boy and ball girl training

 

In a place so rich in emotions, come and join in the fun and take part in the fierce competition!

Competition :

 

All the matches will be played on the outdoor clay courts and will consist of one set of five games with a deciding game in the event of a draw.  Each championship will include with a qualifying round and a final table.

The bar (drinks, fast food and confectionary) will be open until 7 pm.

This year, a prize will be awarded to the best team from the International Organisations (A work of art by Dimitri Lorin) and the best team from the Embassies (A work of art by Maud Chaverneff).

 

The prizes will be awarded during the month of October at the BNP Paribas concept Store at 2, place de l’Opéra (Paris 2nd District)

Umpiring:

Organised by an international umpire, come and discover the rules and the key roles which the umpires must apply during the international tournaments.   After following the training and listening to their advice, you can face reality by umpiring one of the competition matches.

At the end of the competition you will have to complete a quiz on umpiring.

Groundsmen:

organised by groundsmen of FFT courts, you will learn the techniques for maintaining a court during a tournament, including using the drag mat!

Technique, efficiency and speed are the bywords!

After being tested in the competition matches, you will need to answer a quiz which will assess the knowledge you have gained during the day.

 

Tennis shoes mandatory !

Event open to children aged 5 or older, they will reveal all their budding artistic talent by designing a tennis ball in the colours of their Embassy or their International Organisation!

The Museum of French Tennis

The first multimedia tennis museum. Over 2,200 m2 of floor space, it houses
a permanent exhibition area,

a multimedia area, two themed exhibition areas including a multimedia library
of more than 800 m2 of  floor space.

Behind the scenes at Roland Garros

Guided visit

Come and discover what happens behind the scenes in Roland Garros!

From the most confidential areas of the stadium, to the areas reserved to each category of staff involved in organising the French Open, you will know everything about the greatest clay court tennis tournament in the world

On the programme of this amazing tour: the stadium's history, the era of the Musketeers, that of the "Divine" Suzanne Lenglen and other legendary champions. This tour will take you to the holiest of holiest places: the players' areas, the dressing rooms, the press centre, the Philippe-Chatrier court, etc.

The tours, in both French and English, are led by a professional guide.

The tour will last just over one hour.

The tour times will be provided later depending on the number of registrations.

 


 

Step into the shoes of a ball boy or ball girl!

This event is open to all children aged between 13 and 16 years old.

Organised by the coach of the ball boys and ball girls at the French Open Championships, the children will receive the complete ball girl/boy training: dexterity, endurance and speed will be put to the test.

 

The training lasts around 2 hours.

The training times will be provided later depending on the number of registrations.

Mini Tennis

Open to children aged 5 years and older this workshop will give the youngest children a fun and educational way to learn about tennis through different 'tennis' and 'sports' workshops.

Workshop open over the weekend from 10 am to 4 pm, no registration required.

Throughout the day, the children will remain under the parent's responsibility.

 

Don't forget to bring your sport attire !


Règlement Trophée BNP Paribas 2011

Regulation

The trophy of  the embassies is a competition approved by the F.F.T. for this fact, the federal rules of tennis is applied to this competition.

It is a competition by team, which counts the individual results.

The whole competition is being held, either over one weekend, or two according to the number of participants, qualifying days for the lowest ranking (Thursday and Friday)

Individual results will be sent to the French Tennis Federation for the calculation of the ranking season 2012. Therefore, they will be counted for the intermediate ranking of January 2012.

Each candidate represents, either an embassy, or an international organization based in Paris.

The performances of each candidate will be added up by teams.

Candidates must be available throughout all the competition. The absence of a player will lead not only to a W.O. but a withdrawal of a point to its team.

Sports Equipment

The competition takes place on clay, It is necessary to have suitable footwear to the surface. It will be strictly forbidden to compete without this minimum equipment.

The white outfit is normally the current uniform in all the French Tennis Federation. Yet, each team can put on a T-shirt with logo representing them.

Arbitration and judge arbitration

The competition is organized by an official sporting referee league in Paris. Supervisors will be designated by him in order to help to the smooth running of the entire competition. They will also be available to competitors for any arbitration issues/questions during the games.

Teams Ranking

Each competitor adds 5 points to his team. The winner of an event will bring in 1 bonus of 5 additional points to his team.

Double events special case..

In double, it is not necessary to belong to the same team. If they win, each member of the pair of the double will be awarded 2.5 points to his team.

At the end of the competition, will be declared the winner, the team which will have added up the highest number of points.

In the event of a tie, the greatest number of competitors of each team who brought back points, will be taken into account.

In case of further tie, the will be taken into account (difference between the number of sets won and the number of sets lost)

Organized categories/events are :

-        Men’s singles

-        Men’s singles +40 age

-        Ladies singles

-        Ladies singles +40 age

-        Men’s doubles

-        Ladies doubles

-        Mixed doubles

Each competitor may enroll in one or two events. (For the cumulative singles and singles +40 age categories, it’s the referee judge who decides to accept these double categories based on the anticipated progress of the tournament.

Concerning the singles events, registration is mandatory before the competition.

Concerning the doubles ‘events, places are reserved for the competitors that would be removed from the singles’ list quickly.

Match format

It’s the « D » format of the French Tennis Federation which is retained for each match. 2 winning sets of four games with decisive point at 40 all and tie-break at 4 games all.

Decisive point rule reminder: when 40 all, one point is disputed to win the game, the raiser choosing the side on which the service will be conducted.

By taking account the match format, it is possible to play three singles matches in a day.
